Tricep Extension, Lying Barbell |
Type: Arms |
The lying tricep extension is an excellent exercise for developing larger triceps as it targets the tricep muscle group intensely. It can be quite a difficult exercise to get right if you are doing it for the first time, so practice with an unloaded bar first and get the technique correct before adding any weight.

Tricep Extension, Lying Barbell Steps:
Lie on your back on a bench with feet firmly on the floor.
Maintain a straight back throughout the movement.
Stabilize the shoulders and extend the elbows so the bar is directly above the chest.
Lower the barbell by bending at the elbows and stop just above the forehead.
Pause briefly, extend the elbows to straighten the arms and return to the start position.
Top Tip:- If using a barbell, it's advisable to use a spotter or make sure you use a weight you can handle before attempting this exercise unsupervised.
- If using a barbell you should adopt an overhand grip. This exercise can also be performed standing up.
- The only movement should be in the elbows. Using a curl bar instead of a straight bar helps to remove some stress from the wrists and makes it easier to keep the elbows tucked in.
