Squat, Dumbbell

Type: Legs
The dumbbell squat is a great all round exercise that works all the lower body parts as it is based on multiple joint movements in the legs. Your abdominals and core muscles get a good workout too. Using dumbbells makes it slightly better for beginners as it's easier to control your balance as your center of gravity is kept low.

Squat, Dumbbell Steps:

Step 1:
Take hold of a dumbbell in each hand and place them by your sides.

Step 2:
Stand with feet shoulder width apart.

Step 3:
Tense the stomach and back muscles.

Step 4:
Start the squat by bending at the knees and hips, keeping the back straight.

Step 5:
Gradually lower to a comfortable position.

Step 6:
Return back to the start by pushing the ground away.

Step 7:
Keep the chest lifted and back straight at all times.

Top Tip:

  • Keep the knees in line with the toes.
  • Keep the heels down throughout the movement.
  • You don't have to go right down. Go down as far as you feel comfortable. Everyone is different.
