The Saigon spassov squat is an effective exercise for the quads and glutes, and is performed by adopting a split squat position with the trailing leg suspended on a gym bench or step. This version of the spassov squat breaks the whole movement down into several individual stages with a short pause at each stage to increase the time under tension of the muscles. Squat, Saigon Spassov Steps:
Stand in front of a gym bench or step
|
Take a normal step forwards away from the bench
|
Reach back with one leg and rest the toes on the top of the bench
|
Place the hands on the top of the head
|
Gradually bend the lead leg to squat down pausing at 5 points
|
Pause at the lowest position and maintain balance
|
Push back up through the thighs and hips pausing at 5 points
|
Complete the required number of repetitions and then swap legs to finish the set
|
